Explained simply, for whoever buys a hotel's towels — not for the textile engineer.
The number 24 shows how fine the yarn is — the higher it is, the finer the yarn. “/2” means two strands are twisted together. The result is a two-ply yarn that is more even and stronger than a single yarn of the same thickness.
Before spinning, the cotton is combed: short fibres and impurities are removed and the long fibres stay aligned. The yarn comes out smoother, cleaner and more even.
GSM tells you what one square metre of fabric weighs — not what yarn it is made of. A 550 GSM towel in 24/2 Combed yarn and a 550 GSM towel in 12/1 Ring yarn weigh the same, but look, feel and age differently.
| 24/2 Combed (Hotel · Premium · Luxury) | 16/1 · 12/1 Ring (Professional) | |
|---|---|---|
| Yarn | Two-ply: two strands twisted together | Single-ply: one strand |
| Cotton | Combed: short fibres and impurities are removed | Not combed: short fibres remain |
| Surface | More even, well-defined loops | More rustic, robust |
| Hand and look | Finer, premium look | Standard, functional |
| Best for | Hotels that want a premium look, spas | High volume, controlled budget |
Towels in 16/1 and 12/1 ring yarn are a good choice for high volumes and a controlled budget. We show them separately from the 24/2 Combed range, so you know exactly what you are buying.
